Information sector, information profession and information education (R. Vlasák) ...p. 159-168

The content of the educational program of the Information Studies and Librarianship at the Institute of Information and Library Studies at Charles University Prague cover the six sections of the information sector which reflect the branches where the students find their job opportunities: Mass media, archives, public management, economic information, scientific and technical information, and the field of cultural information. This definition obviates the fruitless discussion regarding elimination of the "L-world" from the names of the information oriented schools in USA. It reflects the broader concept of the modem information profession reflecting the works of the authors as Machlup, Bell, Martin, etc.

Subject classification of information and their accessibility (M. Balíková) ...p. 175-186

It is well known that the amount of information available on the Internet is growing dramatically. The mission of libraries and information centers is to make information available to end-users. The availability of a whole variety of documents - traditional (printed), an electronic resource (textual, digital objects) presents a great challenge to information experts (library and information professionals) in the current online environment.
More detailed subject access to documents - to locate specific items of information - has become the vital need in online environment, where the best solution seems to be a combination of keywords (full text searching) with controlled vocabulary. The integration, in a more efficient manner, of controlled vocabulary and thesaurus elements in the indexing and retrieval process promises to solve such tasks as the harmonization of different information languages, the creation of integrated tools (such as the subject authority file), etc.

Uniform titles of music works (B. Sedláková) ...p. 187-197

This article results from a thesis, submitted in the Institute for Information and Library Studies of the Philosophical Faculty of Charles University. It concerns to a problem of a use and of a creation of uniform titles of music works. The first part turns to a role of uniform titles in catalogues on the basis of studies from B. Tillett and S. Vellucci. Their studies touch bibliographic relationships in catalogues. Some types of these relation ships are just provided by uniform titles. They become unfungible in contemporary types of catalogues. The next part refers to a creation of uniform titles of music works according to AACR2, LCRI and MCD. Only a general introduction to these problems, some matters of interest and polemic areas were chosen to this article. Own examples with procedure are a part of it too.
